LEXINGTON, KY – With renewed determination in his eyes and a message full of gratitude and purpose, Collin Chandler stood before reporters and fans alike, declaring that he’s ready to give back to a program and a fanbase that stood by him through a season of physical setbacks and emotional trials.
“It’s now my time to pay you back,” Chandler said during an emotional interview following the team’s end-of-season meeting. “Coach Pope, the staff, my teammates, and Big Blue Nation never gave up on me—and I want everyone to know, I’m going to give everything I’ve got this coming season.”
Chandler, a highly touted guard known for his athleticism and scoring prowess, endured a challenging year plagued by injuries. Despite showing flashes of brilliance throughout the season, his availability was limited, most notably by an ankle injury that sidelined him for the final three games of LSU’s season. On top of that, a gruesome cut near his eye during a high-intensity matchup against Oklahoma left him shaken but undeterred. And before the season even began, Chandler was already fighting through recovery from a minor offseason setback.
“It was tough, not being able to be out there the way I wanted to,” Chandler admitted. “I came here with goals and dreams—to help this team win, to represent Kentucky the right way. But some things were out of my control.”
Rather than allowing frustration to consume him, Chandler chose resilience. He remained a fixture on the bench and in practice, constantly engaged, cheering on his teammates, and working quietly behind the scenes to get healthy. According to Coach Mark Pope, Chandler’s attitude and perseverance became a quiet inspiration in the locker room.
“Collin’s season didn’t go how any of us expected in terms of availability,” Pope said. “But what impressed me most was his attitude—never complaining, always encouraging, always putting the team first. That’s the kind of young man you want in your program.”
Chandler echoed his appreciation for Pope’s leadership and personal support. “Coach Pope has believed in me since day one,” he said. “He didn’t just see me as a player—he saw me as a person. That meant a lot during the hard times.”
With the injury setbacks now behind him, Chandler is focused on what lies ahead. He has already begun offseason training and says he feels stronger, both mentally and physically.
“Every rep, every drill—it means more now,” he said. “I’m not just getting ready for a season. I’m preparing to honor the trust people placed in me when they welcomed me here.”
The Kentucky faithful have remained supportive throughout his journey. On social media, Wildcats fans frequently flooded Chandler’s posts with words of encouragement, especially during the lows. He made sure to mention them specifically.
“Big Blue Nation—you’ve had my back even when I couldn’t be out there playing,” Chandler said. “You have no idea how much that lifted me. Now, it’s time for me to give that love back on the court.”
As expectations begin to build for the upcoming season under Coach Pope’s guidance, Chandler’s comeback is one of the most anticipated storylines. And with a full offseason ahead to train and reconnect with his teammates, Chandler says he’s embracing the pressure—and the responsibility—with open arms.
“This is Kentucky,” he said. “You don’t come here to sit on the sidelines. You come here to fight for something bigger than yourself. That’s exactly what I intend to do.”
