Oscar Piastri has been handed a three-place grid penalty ahead of today’s Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
The McLaren driver originally qualified third in a strong qualifying performance.
However, his starting position has now been changed following an incident involving Liam Lawson during Q2.
The stewards ruled that Piastri had impeded Lawson while the Racing Bulls driver was on a fast lap.
Lawson was unable to complete his qualifying lap as planned and was eliminated in Q2.
As a result of the penalty, Piastri drops from third to sixth on the starting grid.
Charles Leclerc moves up to third, while Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen also gain positions.
Piastri described the incident as a difficult situation but will now have to fight his way forward during the race.
The penalty adds another storyline to an already highly anticipated Italian Grand Prix.
With Piastri starting sixth, McLaren will be hoping he can recover positions and challenge for a strong result at Monza.
