University of Kentucky head men’s basketball coach Mark Pope and his wife, Lee Ann Pope, have officially announced the date and details for a dynamic new women’s-focused event titled Hoops and Heels, set to take place on Thursday, November 7th, 2025, at the iconic Rupp Arena.
Billed as an energizing blend of fashion, fun, and fast breaks, Hoops and Heels aims to spotlight women’s contributions to basketball, the community, and beyond — all with a signature Kentucky twist.
“We want to create something that celebrates the women who make this program and this community so special,” said Coach Pope during the announcement press conference held on campus this morning. “Hoops and Heels isn’t just about basketball. It’s about bringing women together — fans, athletes, leaders, mothers, daughters — and recognizing their power, presence, and passion.”
An Event Unlike Any Other
Rupp Arena, traditionally the site of high-stakes men’s basketball clashes, will transform into a vibrant space where hoops meet high heels, and courtside meets couture. The evening will feature a mix of live entertainment, interactive basketball experiences, fashion-forward festivities, and candid conversations with Kentucky coaches and players — both men and women.
Lee Ann Pope, a long-time advocate for community engagement and women’s empowerment, said the event is designed to break new ground in the college sports landscape. “We’ve talked for years about ways to make basketball culture more inclusive and exciting for women,” she shared. “This is about creating a new tradition — one that’s welcoming, uplifting, and unforgettable.”
The evening will include:
-
A Women’s Basketball Showcase: Featuring members of the Kentucky Wildcats women’s team in an exhibition and skills challenge.
-
Q&A Panel Sessions with players and coaches, focusing on women in sports, leadership, and personal journeys.
-
Live Music and Entertainment to keep the energy high throughout the night.
-
A ‘Catwalk Court’ Fashion Segment, where local leaders and special guests will model Kentucky-themed looks, mixing athletic flair with upscale style.
-
On-Court Giveaways, VIP Experiences, and fan-interactive zones throughout the arena.
Kentucky Women Take Center Stage
Mark Pope, who took the reins as head coach earlier this year, is known for his modern approach to building program culture — one that emphasizes connection, visibility, and a family-first mentality. The Popes say Hoops and Heels is also a reflection of their desire to engage a broader fanbase, especially women who are often underrepresented in sports promotions.
“Women are the backbone of Big Blue Nation,” said Coach Pope. “Whether it’s the moms who raise young athletes, the students filling the stands, or the female coaches leading teams to victory — we want to honor that legacy and inspire the next generation.”
The Kentucky women’s basketball team, under head coach Kenny Brooks, will also play a central role in the event. Coach Brooks called Hoops and Heels a “visionary initiative” and said he’s proud to be part of a program that’s putting women front and center in Rupp Arena.
“Our student-athletes are thrilled,” Brooks said. “They love the idea of showing who they are — as players, as people, and as role models. This event will give them a platform to shine on and off the court.”
More Than a Game
While the basketball elements will draw plenty of excitement, the Popes insist that Hoops and Heels is about more than sports. It’s also a chance to bring attention to key social issues, uplift women’s voices, and invest in the community.
Proceeds from the event will benefit local women’s organizations, scholarships for female student-athletes, and youth basketball development programs. Partnerships with Lexington businesses, nonprofits, and women-led startups are also being developed to add more community involvement to the event.
“There’s power in gathering — especially when it’s for a cause bigger than ourselves,” said Lee Ann Pope. “We hope Hoops and Heels becomes an annual tradition that grows every year and continues to make a difference where it matters most.”
Tickets and Details
Tickets for Hoops and Heels will go on sale in mid-July through the official Kentucky Athletics website. Special VIP packages will include courtside seating, a pre-show reception with the Popes and team members, and exclusive Hoops and Heels merchandise.
Students, season ticket holders, and local schools will have access to discounted group tickets, and several surprise guests are expected to be announced as the event draws closer.
Fans are encouraged to follow the event on social media using the hashtag #HoopsAndHeelsUK for updates, behind-the-scenes peeks, and early access promotions.
A New Era Begins
With excitement already buzzing across Big Blue Nation, Hoops and Heels represents more than just a one-night spectacle. It marks a fresh start — for the Popes, for the Wildcats, and for the entire Kentucky community.
“This is what a new chapter looks like,” Coach Pope concluded. “It’s bold. It’s joyful. And it belongs to everyone.”
Mark your calendars: Hoops and Heels hits Rupp Arena on Thursday, November 7th — and it’s set to be a slam dunk celebration for women, Wildcats, and the Bluegrass State.
