In a major recruiting shake-up, the No. 1-ranked high school basketball player in the nation, TJ Power, has officially committed to the University of Kentucky, flipping his pledge from BYU. Power’s decision comes after weeks of speculation and a heated battle among college basketball’s elite programs.
Originally committed to BYU, Power reopened his recruitment last month, citing a desire to explore other opportunities. The 6-foot-9 forward quickly drew attention from powerhouse programs, including Alabama, Georgia, and Kentucky. After official visits and meetings with coaching staffs, Power ultimately chose to join John Calipari’s Wildcats.
“Kentucky felt like home,” Power said in a statement. “Coach Cal has a proven track record of developing players for the next level, and I’m excited to be a part of that legacy.”
Power brings elite scoring, versatility, and a high basketball IQ to Lexington. His commitment solidifies Kentucky’s 2025 recruiting class as one of the strongest in the country and adds another dynamic piece to Calipari’s ever-competitive roster.
